The George Washington elementary School is a beautiful three-story building situated on eleven acres of land. It has a theme of Communication arts which permeates all we do and is embedded in integrated classroom activities that include written, visual, technological, oral and artistic communication forms across all subject areas.
GW offers an enriching educational environment that provides a sense of community and high, attainable expectations for all children. Our kindergarten through fifth grade education revolves around ensuring that all students develop and grow in the various areas necessary for a successful school career and personal life: a desire to learn and a love of learning as a life-long process, a foundation of strong skills to enable independent growth, critical-thinking and decision-making skills, positive self-esteem and respect for others. Our balanced literacy approach, hands-on math (TERC), Dual Language Academy, social studies and science curriculum directly align with the new New York State Standards.
The Media Center, centerpiece of our Communication Arts theme, provides a spectacular environment for students, teachers and parents to immerse themselves in rich literature and research.
Our monthly Read-Alouds, grade-level author visits, Family Nights (Reading, Math, Fun & Fitness, etc.) and parent education meetings create opportunities for students and families to participate in extended learning throughout the year.
