The White Plains City School District has won a National School Public Relations award for its Facebook, Twitter and YouTube social media websites.

The honorable mention award was presented to Evelyn McCormack of Southern Westchester BOCES, who created and maintains the White Plains social media sites. White Plains was at the forefront of using social media to get its messages out to the public, having created its Facebook page in September 2009. The District’s Facebook page has attracted more than 1,600 fans since its inception.

The competitive NSPRA Publications and Electronic Media Awards contest is open to all public and private schools and districts in the country.  White Plains also won an NSPRA award in 2009-10 for Inside Our Schools, the District’s print newsletter.
